Your Guide to Fourth of July Celebrations from Boston to The South Shore & The Islands
As we head into Independence Day weekend, our team at Boston Connect Real Estate is taking a break from real estate updates to bring you something festive, fun, and full of local pride—your ultimate guide to celebrating the Fourth of July on the South Shore and beyond.
📜 Why We Celebrate the Fourth of July
On July 4, 1776, the Continental Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence, officially breaking away from British rule and forming the United States of America. While the vote actually took place on July 2nd, the Fourth is when the fireworks began—literally.
Here’s a little fun historical twist: John Adams believed we’d always celebrate on July 2nd and told Abigail Adams the holiday should be marked with “pomp and parade…bonfires and illuminations from one end of this continent to the other.” He was off by a couple days, but not wrong about the celebration!
🇺🇸 Massachusetts: A Birthplace of Liberty
It’s no surprise that so many of our towns take great pride in their Fourth of July traditions. After all, the Boston Tea Party, Paul Revere’s Ride, and the battles of Lexington and Concord all happened here. And from Boston to Martha’s Vineyard, we’ve kept the spirit of independence alive through annual parades, fireworks, and family-friendly festivals.
